“Severe weather expected”
This dang L went from one position to another position five hundred miles away in ten hours.
I don't know if it dematerialized then rematerialized instantly, I don't know if it bounced, I don't know if it drove there, I don't know if it swam. I'm saying that I'm uncertain about it's mode of travel and rate of speed but we can inspect the water vapor loop and try to understand.
In position one the precipitation map does not look at all threatening for Hawaii.
Upon relocation of the L to position two the mild precipitation suddenly and surprisingly becomes extreme. Actually I suspect that it's more than just the relocation of the L because somehow this extreme weather is set to pummel Maui and Oahu but stay pushed off from the Big Island where the northern most NEXRAD is working overtime.
Trade Winds Reverse (Vol.IV)
This strong winter storm has deposited a dark cloud over the central valley. Why not off the coast in either the windward or leeward side where the sky is clear? Windward side is the South and West Coast in this case and leeward side is the North Coast. Is there something above this dark cloud extracting energy from Earths core?

“Total precipitable water” I suppose it's not the same as total precipitation. The precipitation seems to only really occur on the islands not over the ocean. Here's the water vapor loop for the East Pacific.

And now they can't render the island of Kauai but you see the Kauai NEXRAD is now active and between the action of the Hawaii NEXRAD and Kauai NEXRAD this jet of moisture is being steered right into Oahu and Maui.
